With new laws enacted that require proper disposal of needles, syringes, and other sharps, we’re leading the way with the Sharps Disposal By Mail System®.
Already implemented as an integral part of the municipal waste programs of many California cities, Sharps is working with many other municipalities and cities to eliminate needles, syringes, and lancets from the public waste stream and assist self-injecting residents with the proper disposal of the estimated 3 billion syringes disposed outside of the hospital and healthcare setting each year.
Sharps designs programs specific for each municipality. For example, an individual who resides in a municipality that has implemented the program may receive the Sharps Disposal by Mail System at a local participating pharmacy, mail order or specialty pharmacy by showing proof of residency. In some cases the resident may be required to pay a nominal co-payment for the syringe disposal product. We believe the recently passed legislation in California and Massachusetts will increase the pace by which municipalities implement programs facilitating the proper disposal of used syringes in their communities.
We also provide disposal solutions for Abbott Laboratory's HUMIRA® program whereby the patients are provided the Sharps Disposal By Mail System to facilitate the safe and proper disposal of the injection device.
